Process

How a Wright Angle home actually gets built.

From first call
to keys

Most projects start with a phone call and a site visit. Before any drawings exist, Mike walks the lot with you — sun angles, view corridors, where the wind comes from, where the water goes. The decisions made standing on the dirt set the tone for everything that follows.

From there, we bring your architect into the conversation early. We are general contractors, not designers, and the homes we build come out best when an architect is given room to do their work and we are given room to do ours. Most clients arrive with an architect already chosen; if you don't have one, we'll point you to the people we've worked with for years.

Permitting in Gunnison County moves at its own pace, and we plan for it. While drawings are in review, we're sourcing timber, scheduling subs, and locking in the long-lead items — custom windows, specialty steel, hand-forged hardware. Once shovels are in the ground, the project runs on a published schedule and a weekly client update.

Foundation pours typically wrap in month one. Framing and timber raising happen in months two and three; this is the phase clients usually fly out for, because it's the most satisfying to watch. Mechanical rough-in, exterior envelope, then interior finish follow in order. A typical home takes fourteen to twenty months from groundbreak to keys, depending on scope.

The walkthrough happens in person, room by room, with a punch list we don't leave until you've signed off on. After handover, we stay in the relationship — most clients call us back five and ten years later for the second home, the addition, or the cabin for the kids.
